"Is he here yet?!"

Tooru's excited shriek from the downstairs started you from your nap, bringing a mixture of amusement and annoyance into your drowsy system. You rubbed at your eyes tiredly, one hand pushing the sleep away and the other falling on your rather large baby bump, one that was nine months along and ready to pop. Hence Tooru's extreme entrance. You heard him tossing practice gear aside, fiddling with his shoes and tossing them on the foyer before he thundered down the hall, making a break for the stairs. You smiled to yourself, leaning back against the pillows.

He was always the cool kid in school, so collected and smooth around the ladies. The only time you'd witnessed his overexcited nature was when he was being rather flamboyant around the volleyball team. Now that you were married to him, though...

It was a brand new experience every single day.

"Is he here? Did your water break? Is the ambulance on the way? I heard sirens in the distance!!"

"Not so fast," You stopped him with an amazing amount of patience. The hand you held up was caught by his, hastily squeezing your fingers when he darted onto the bed beside you. His eyes were so full of hope, you almost didn't want to let him down. But you continued, "That was Tobio and Akane. Apparently she went into labor, this afternoon."

You showed him your phone, and sure enough, the group LINE message was clear: "Baby's on the way!" And with it, a picture of a grinning Akane and utterly flabergasted Tobio whose red face said it all. It was pretty clear who was ready to be a parent and who wasn't.

Tooru wasn't as pleased with the news, flopping down onto the bed with a defeated sigh. "Seriously? Tobio-chan has to beat me even at baby-making, huh?" He grumbled. You swatted him on the head.

"Don't be like that. Ours is just a little bit later than theirs is. You can't really call it a 'loss', can you? Fate decides when babies show up, not who won a volleyball game."

"He beat me in the last scrimmage by one point! It was completely unfair!" He protested, and his childish mannerisms seemed to return full force. The pout on his lips, indignance in his eyes...it was all there. You smiled to yourself, tousling your poor husband's hair.

"There, there. You'll get him next time, I promise."

"As if." He scoffed, pressing his face into the comforter. "That brat's been beating me at my own game since middle school. No matter how hard I try, he's always got one over me! Even when it comes to situations in real life, it seems!" He added, gesturing to your baby bump.

"Don't blame him for this." You chided him, lifting your tired feet to plop them onto his back. "I'd rather he come out healthy and late than early and sick."

"I guess, but..." He sighed, turning to peek up at your tummy. "Did he really have to wait another day? You'd think he'd have tried to make his Papa's birthday a little more special." You heard him sigh, feeling a calloused, warm hand touch your stomach. "Come onnn, Little Tooru! Just pop out and be the best birthday present ever! Then you and I can have the same birthday- it'll be twice the party, I promise! And if Mama lets me pull some strings, there'll be twice the girls."

"Don't count on it." You nudged him in the rib with your foot, making him withdraw with a laugh.

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!!" He assured you, inching up on the bed so he laid beside you. "Well, at least about the girls. I was really hoping he'd make my birthday even more special, but I guess I'll just have to suffer through another quiet one." Tooru exhaled, covering his face with his arm.

You flicked his nose. "What do you mean, 'quiet'? I thought Hajime got your friends together and you boys went out, tonight."

"Oh, we did. But Iwa-chan wouldn't let me drink or do much of anything fun because he didn't want to bring me home drunk and make you deal with an 'intoxicated idiot'." He told you, "Since you were on bedrest this whole week, and all that."

"Remind me to thank him. He's such a thoughtful friend." You beamed at him, running a hand through his hair. He hummed in content, eyes fluttering closed as your fingers wove through the thick mop of cowlicks. I guess you're ready to hit the hay then, huh? There's not much else we can do, tonight."

"There are a couple things~" He mused, cracking an eye open. "For example! There's still plenty of cake left from the party! If you want, I could bring you some and we can share it!"

"I don't know if we should be eating cake so late at night..." You glanced at the clock which read a quarter to midnight, and you were already having enough trouble getting to sleep as is. Babies kicking and turning in your tummy at all hours didn't exactly make for light sleeping. "What if it gives you bad dreams?"

"That's just something they tell kids so they won't eat sweets past bedtime. I'll say the same thing to Little Tooru when he's old enough!" Your husband said dismissively, already off the bed and headed for the kitchen. "And just to make the occasion even more special, why don't we watch a movie, too?"

"I did mention it's late, didn't I?"

"Late date night! Come on, it'll be fun!" He reasoned, shooting you a wink, "I'll even let you pick the movie. And on my birthday! What a treat, right? You might say I'm the most considerate, thoughtful guy out there!"

You resisted the urge to throw a pillow at him. "Just hurry up and go get the cake!"

"Ma'am, yes ma'am!" He saluted, thundering down the steps with a gleeful laugh. You shook your head in disbelief. To think this was the man you married; so suave on the outside, yet an incurable dork on the inside. It was the only definition you could think of that fit Tooru. Well, aside from "Best Papa Material Ever". With the energy he had, you hardly worried about how good of a father Tooru would be. Something told you he'd be great at fatherhood.

Provided he didn't spend every second taking selfies with the baby once he was born. You'd have to monitor that.

~*~

He paced around and around, going back and forth in the waiting room with sheer adrenaline coursing through his veins. Hands clasped tight behind his back, lip being chewed relentlessly, with narrow eyes and ruffled hair it was clear that Tooru was worried. Every excrutiating second he spent outside the delivery room, hoping and praying you were doing okay, it was driving him crazy!

In the back of his head, he wondered why he wasn't in the room with you, as it was allowed nowadays. But he could hardly think on it, instead more concerned about how you were doing. You were pushing a baby out of your womb right now. A baby that he'd been waiting extra long for, and was finally coming. He could hardly believe it. He just hoped that all this pain and agnozing waiting would be worth it. Call the poor man dramatic, but he could hardly bear it.

Tooru was just about ready to give it up and just barge into the room, but just before he could do something he regretted, a nurse opened the door. She looked at him emotionlessly, and for a second, he could've sworn the nurse looked like Hajime...

"The baby's been delivered, sir. You may go and see your wife." The nurse announced in a deep voice that didn't quite fit with the dress he wore, but Tooru didn't question it. A bright smile exploded onto his face and he raced into the room, hardly wasting a second. When he spotted you smiling right back, he darted to your side and covered you in kisses.

"(Name)!! You made it!" He grinned, "I knew you would. And our baby's here now too, right?" He added, glancing around the room. The doctor and midwife came up to you both, holding a little blue bundle. Tooru had never felt so happy in his entire life.

"Congratulations sir, you have a healthy baby boy. Probably even healthier than you." The doctor said as he handed Tooru the bundle. His brow furrowed in confusion when he took the baby, but Tooru didn't think too much on it. After all, his son was finally here!

"Oh my gosh, I never thought this would ever happen! I've been waiting so long, and I finally get to meet you!" He gushed, peeling back the little blanket so he could look at his son's face. "Ohhh, aren't you just the most perfect little angel! You look just like your mother, too! Dark hair, dark eyes...annoying little frown..." He trailed off, brow furrowing. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you almost look like Tobio-chan..."

He laughed to himself. "But that'd be impossible! Right, (Name)?"

"Actually," You said in a dull tone, making his stomach drop, "I forgot to tell you. The doctors and I decided that you weren't good enough to carry my child, so Tobio artificially inseminated me, instead. We decided to wait until the exact moment he was born so we could tell you and crush your soul."

"What?!" His jaw dropped, staring at the little baby with horror in his eyes. "That's impossible!!"

"No, it's not." You shook your head, "You just aren't good enough, Tooru. That's always how it is, isn't it?"

"Right." The doctor agreed, "You just aren't good enough."

"You aren't good enough." The nurses echoed.

"You aren't good enough." Tobio said, hanging upside down from the window.

"Aren't good enough." The baby said.

Tooru screamed.

~*~

"Tooru? Tooru! Wake up!!"

Brown eyes snapped wide open when he felt his shoulder being shook, grasped by a quivering hand slick with his sweat. The brunette snapped up from where he slept, gasping loudly. He clutched at his chest, desperately trying to re-center himself. Not a fun feeling.

"(N-Name)..." He choked out, completely shaken. You stared at him in shock, worried about how upset he was. Your arms came around his shoulders, trying as best you could to hold him despite your swollen belly.

"Are you okay? What in the world were you dreaming about? You were muttering and tossing around in your sleep!"

"Oh, God, I had...I-I had the worst nightmare!" He confessed, turning to look at you with wild eyes, "You were there, and the baby, and doctors...Tobio was- he was hanging from a window? I hope that little bastard fell-"

"Tobio was- what? What are you talking about??" Your brow furrowed in confusion, failing in your attempt to piece together his wild story. "See, this is why you don't eat cake late at night. It screws up your system like you wouldn't believe."

"(Name), am I..." Tooru trailed off, grasping your hands. He frowned with terrible seriousness, the kind you only ever saw when he was losign a game on the court. He hesitated, squeezing your hands tightly. "Am I good enough?"

"...For what?"

"Nothing, just...well, everything. Anything. Am I good enough?" He repeated, pursing his lips as he awaited the answer. It was then that you spotted the insecurity in his eyes, shining bright in the darkness. The way his chest caved inward with every panting breath, needing to center himself despite having no idea how in the world he was supposed to do it. Not when he felt so shaken, both inside and out. Your gaze softened, and you laced your fingers with his.

"You've always been good enough, sweetheart. Even more than that. You're more than enough, especially for me." You told him earnestly, and he turned his eyes downward. You inched closer, adding, "I mean, you're talented and thoughtful, and you're confident and kind. ...Well, so long as you're not teasing Hajime or being a jerk to Tobio."

"He deserves it." Tooru grumbled, making you smile.

"Even so, you're wonderful. I know your, uh, crippling self-doubt makes you feel otherwise, but trust me when I tell you, you're absolutely superior. You're everything I could ever ask for, and you're just what I need. You hear that? I didn't say Tobio, I said you." You said warmly, reaching up to stroke his cheek.

Tooru leaned into your touch, despite keeping his eyes glued to the blankets. "...You're sure about that, huh?"

"As sure as I am pregnant with your son."

"You...you sure he's mine?"

"I would like to think so, yeah." Your response brought his eyes back to you, suddenly flickering with fear.

"So wait, you're not sure? You've got to be absolutely positive!!"

"I-I'm positive, I promise! Whose else would it be, goofball?"

"We both know full well who it could be! Did he convince you to artificially inseminate you with his superior DNA?!"

"What?! No!! Who are you even talking about?!"

"Y-you have to be sure!!"

"I'm sure! I'm sure!!" You cried, trying to decide whether or not to slap some sense into the man or just let him ride it out and figure out his own issues for himself.

"...Okay. I believe you, for now."

"What do you mean, 'for now'?!"

It was barely a couple days after the strange incident in the bedroom that Oikawa found himself staring at a familiar scene. One he'd dreamed of (against his will), but in a much happier, more practical light. His head rested against yours, smiling down at the tiny, pink creation snoozing away in his arms. The newborn's eyes had opened once, giving him just enough view to know he had his daddy's eyes, and definitely your hair. No Kageyama in sight.

"He's just beautiful, isn't he?" You half-sighed, half-yawned as you looked at your little boy with him. Tooru nodded, wrapping his free arm around your shoulders and holding you just as close.

"Are you kidding? He's the most adorable little baby in the whole world! Aren't you, Katsu-chan?" He cooed, nuzzling the little one close to his chest. You loved the way he snuggled the baby, practically coddling him already, despite being only a few hours old.

"You really wanted to name him Katsuo." You smiled to yourself, leaning against him. Tooru grinned brightly, shrugging as if it were obvious.

"But of course! He has to have a winning name, so he'll be the greatest, most victorious man in the world when he grows up! And I know he will be; just look at him. He's practically got 'winner' written all over his pudgy little face!" He said excitedly, rocking Katsu gently.

"He gets that from you, you know."

"What? The pudge?"

"No, the 'winner' look. He'll be strong, and confident, just like you are. He'll go above and beyond like you do, too."

"Hopefully, even further than that." Tooru whispered, planting a kiss on your forehead. "And he'll avenge my winning record, too. It's the least he'll be able to do for his old man."

"Good point. By the time he hits high school, you'll definitely be an old geezer." You joked, earning a sharp glare from your self-conscious spouse.

"Hey now, who said you could be a meanie? That's what Iwa-chan's job is!"

"Sorry! But I'm right, aren't I?"

"No!! And I'll prove it by keeping super fit like always, so I'll never age! I'll eat all those super foods that are always in the health magazines, nowadays. ...Well, I'll do that after we finish the rest of that cake! I've been kind of craving it a little bit, you know?"

"...Actually, I take it back. I think he did get the pudge from you."

"Now you're just being cruel!!" He whined, the overdramatic tears welling up as if on cue. You spent the rest of the day teasing your poor husband, who tried his best to defend himself and his little man, who you had a feeling would be joining in on the teasery once he got old enough.

...Mostly because he kept smiling whenever you made Tooru whine (much to his displeasure).
